The Institute of Geosciences at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Christian-Albrechts University Kiel stands for international research and teaching in various fields of general, marine, applied geosciences and geophysics.

The working groups at the IfG are working on a sound understanding of the state and development of the earth. Key research areas include marine and applied geosciences.
The IfG offers two bachelor's degree programs in Earth Sciences and Earth System Physics and three Master's Degrees in Marine and Applied Geosciences and Geophysics.
The sixteen working groups at the IfG cover a wide range of geoscientific fields of work with terrestrial and marine focus.
