Introduction to empirical and quantum mechanical calculations of minerals
with an emphasis on their high pressure behaviour

This 'hands-on' course is addressed at diplom and doctoral students in mineralogy / crystallography / solid state chemistry. No prior knowledge of computer simulations, quantum mechanics or the use of UNIX computers will be assumed.

Aim of the short-course:

Introducing computer simulations to help solve mineralogical/crystallographical problems

Introduction to empirical potential modelling

Experimental aspects of high pressure studies

Introduction to fundamental aspects of quantum mechanical calculations

'Hands-on' experience with computational approaches

Discussion of future developments
