Introduction to quantum mechanical calculations of minerals

This 'hands-on' course is addressed at diplom and doctoral students in mineralogy / crystallography / solid state chemistry. No prior knowledge of computer simulations, quantum mechanics or the use of UNIX computers will be assumed.

Aim of the short-course:

  • Introducing computer simulations to help solve mineralogical/crystallographical problems
  • Introduction to fundamental aspects of quantum mechanical calculations
  • 'Hands-on' experience with modern quantum mechanical approaches
  • Discussion of future developments
